Master CBRNe at VINCA
07.05.2017
Yesterday our students of the 1st level Master Course attended their first practical chemical training with live agents at the Vinča Institute on Nuclear Sciences in Serbia. The students dealt with a pesticide, malathion, which is very similar in characteristics and effect to the VX gas (a nerve agent) and has also been used as chemical warfare agent in the past. They learnt how to prepare a sample of the chemical and how to detect the agent with the best detection tools, all in a safe manner, by wearing full protective gear in a safe environment.
They also learned how the task of decontaminating an entire building, whose concrete was contaminated by chemical agents during construction, is being currently tackled by the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences and how these procedures can be applied to other decontamination issues. The students could also visit the building and learn the process in the field directly from the scientists who are dealing with the problem.
All the activities were carried out at the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences with the coordination of the expert trainers provided by Hotzone Solutions.
