ZAGARELLA, Raffaele

Officer of the Italian Army Engineer Corps

Career:

As Lieutenant,  RZ attended the mandatory Technical Course for newly enlisted officers (in Turin and Rome).

Promoted to the rank of Captain RZ was in charge of supervising contracts with private companies as “Quality Assurance Responsible”

Promoted to the rank of Major RZ started working as Radio Protection Advisor (RPA) dealing mainly with X-ray machines for security controls and environmental radiation surveys.

Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel RZ has been appointed the command of the Environmental Safety Division at CISAM.

 

Positions held:

RZ has been Technical Director of many training courses in radiation safety for military personnel.

RZ is involved, together with other Italian officers, in projects of cooperation with the NATO Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence (Vyskov, Czech Republic)

RZ is in charge, as Army representative, of an Agreement with the Engineering Department of Pisa University. According to terms of this Agreement, he has been thesis supervisor for students interested in specializing in environmental radiation monitoring.

RZ worked as Military Technical Consultant for the Prosecutor’s Office of Larino (CB), Lamezia Terme (CZ) and S. Maria Capua Vetere (CE) during judicial investigations about environmental crimes.

RZ is a full member of the Italian professional association of RPAs (ANPEQ) and radiation safety experts (AIRP).

RZ is called as lecturer by the University of Rome Tor Vergata for the “Master CBRNe”

RZ was member of the Scientific Committee of the 2015 AIRP Congress

RZ was member of the Scientific Committee of the 2016 “Study day in radiation protection” organized by the University of Pisa and AIRP

In 2017 RZ was appointed as Secretary, for a three years mandate, of the “High School of Radiation Protection C. Polvani”

 


 

ZASTENSKAYA, Irina

Medical professional by education: graduated from Minsk State Medical University (PhD in medical science).

Employed at WHO ECEH since 2012. The portfolio of the position includes all health-related aspects of chemicals safety, including public health management during chemical emergencies, one of the core responsibilities being to provide expertise and  technical leadership in such situations.

Previous positions include: chief scientist and head of Laboratory of Biochemical Methods of Research (6 years); Deputy Director of Science at the Republican Research Practical Centre of Hygiene (Minsk, Belarus) (12 years).

Extensive experience in policy development at national and international level,  environmental health research prioritization, research in public and environmental health, and chemical safety. Since 1999, have been involved in international processes in the areas of chemicals management and management of emergency situations, first as country representative and later as WHO staff member.
