SICC2017: Interview to OPCW Director General

07.22.2017

The OPCW has been successful in the elimination of chemical weapons stockpiles by the verifications of our inspectors. We will focus more now on the prevention of re-emergence of such weapons. This requires a collective endeavor by the OPCW Secretariat but also by State Parties. There are technical and scientific advancements that we need to follow closely and we need to take additional measures if necessary, but also there is a change in the security environment, there are new risks and threats, such as the misuse of chemistry by non-State actors and production and use of chemical weapons by terrorists.
