Theoretical lectures and practical activities on biothreats

06.30.2019

The module on "B agents. Biological Warfare Agents, history, current challenges, properties, and case studies" has continued during this week with theoretical lectures and practical activities during Tuesday and Wednsday.

On Tuesday afternoon, the students of the 1st level Master Course have partecipated to practical activities of sampling in different conditions in a laboratory setting at the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. The results of the sampling have been shown to the students on Friday, after the growth of the sampled microorganisms in the incubator.

On Wednsday the students have attended lectures on the bioweapon convention, on the first response in case of B-events, and on the personal protective equipment (PPE). Moreover, they have participated to practical activities on the donning and doffing of the PPE.

The Directive Board of the International Master Courses in Protection against CBRNe Events would like to extend its gratefulness to Prof. Patrizia De Filippis, Dr. Paul William Riley and Dr. Cornelius Bartels for their support to this Master module.

Disclaimer to the photogallery: during the sampling in the laboratory setting the students didn't wear a set of PPE due to the harmless procedures and the safety of the materials used.
